Golf In Mojacar

Six magnificent golf courses have opened in the Mojacar area of Spain, attracting Golfers with lower prices than the more traditional golfing holidays destinations in Portugal and the Costa del Sol.

Almeria is nicely split into two golfing areas. South of Almeria City, La Envia Golf, Playa Serena Golf, Alboran Golf and Golf Almerimar are with easy reach of the holiday resort of Roquetas de Mar. North of Almeria City and close to Mojacar, you will find Marina Golf, Aguilan Golf, Playa Macenas, Desert Springs, El Cortijo Grande Golf and Valle del Este Golf Resort.

North of Almeria City and close to Mojacar. The tourist resort of Mojacar is an ideal locations where non golfers and golfing widows can enjoy the sun, sea and great holiday facilities of Mojacar, and the wider region, while the golfers enjoy a round of golf.

The Mojacar region of Almeria Spain has been a popular tourists resort for over 40 years. Golf is now the fastest growing leisure activity in the region due to the recent development of five magnificent golf courses and the refurbishment of El Cortijo Grande.

El Cortijo Grande El Cortijo course is discretely hidden in a magnificent valley in the foothills of Sierra Cabrera. With fairways lined with mature citrus orchards, olive and fig trees set within the backdrop of picturesque mountains the course offers the golfer a unique experience. The original golf course was designed by Paul Jak Polansky and opened in 1976 as a 9 hole course. Two teeing off areas per hole allows 18 holes to be played.

Located approximately 2 km from the town of Turre and close to the tourist resorts of Garrucha, Mojacar Pueblo and Mojacar Playa in the Spanish region of Almeria.

Marina de la Torre Golf. This course was designed by Ramon Espinosa and opened in 2000. The course is an 18 hole, 72 par course of 5,975 metres which lies on either side of a hill. The course offers views of the Mediterranean Sea on the first 9 holes and views of the mountains on the second 9 holes, three strategically placed lakes create challenging water hazards. The course includes driving range, club house and restaurant, putting greens, pro shop and dressing room and shower.

Marina de la Torre Golf is located on the road between Mojacar Playa and the fishing town of Garrucha.

Desert Spring Golf Resort. Desert Springs is the only desert style course in Europe. Designed by Peter McEvoy to full USGA specifications, it is an 18 hole, par 72 course of 6,173 metres. The course lies in the dry rugged landscape of the Tabernas Desert and features wide fairways and fast undulating greens that are surrounded by water hazards, creeks, rocks and thousands of desert cacti and plants.

Desert Springs Golf Resort is location on a plateau that rises above the Almanzora river plain, just a few kilometres inland from the beach resorts of Mojacar and the more traditional Spanish resorts of Vera and Garrucha.

Valle del Este Golf Resort. The course was designed by Jose Canales and opened in 2002. The course is an 18 hole, 71 par course of 5500 metres. It is located close to the towns of Vera and Mojacar. The course has wide generous fairways, true and fast greens and tees that are all positioned on small raised platforms. The golf course has been design to exploit the natural beauty and vegetation of the landscape with the introduction of a number of water hazards making the course a great challenge.

The Valle del Este Golf Resort is located about 3 km from the old Spanish town of Vera and close to the tourist resort of Mojacar. The Mediterranean dual carriageway allow easy access from the airport at Almeria (70 kms) and Murcia airport (120 km). Budget UK airlines fly into these airports making this a cheap and easy location to reach.

Aguilon golf. This course was opened at the beginning of 2008. It is located between the foothills of the Sierra Aguilon Mountains and Pulpi Bay. Aguilon golf course is about 25 kilometres from Mojacar and close to the beautiful holiday resort of San Juan de los Terreros. The course design is incredibly spectacular and something far out of the ordinary, with magnificent views of the Sierra Aguilon Mountains and the Almeria coast. Aguilon is a 18 holes par 70 course, 5573 metres in length, with 6 lakes, a number of ravines, one hundred plus bunkers and a green which is only assessable by crossing a ravine bridge. The golf course is magnificent and will be a unique golfing experience for golfers of all levels.

Playa Macenas. The development, the most sophisticated and modern resort in Andalucía, was officially opened on 12th July 2008 by Jordi Robinat, President of its developer, the Med Group. The resort covers a total of 140 hectares and has a kilometre of coastline - the only new resort in the region to do so. It is located right on the beach between the beautiful holiday resort of Mojacar Playa and the stunning natural park of Cabo de Gata. The 18-hole, par 68 golf course forms the backbone of the development and combines indigenous species of vegetation, with natural and man-made hazards, to the backdrop of a sea view.
